About this listing

A fab pair - the bodies are the same pattern cut glass, but slightly different size and the Sterling silver lids have a different pattern pierced in them - presumably to differentiate so you don't sprinkle the wrong contents on your food item! Hallmarked for George Ashforth & Co (George Ashforth, Ellis, Hawksworth & Best) Sheffield 1809 they are in pretty good condition for being over 200 years old. A few dints to the silver but nothing to detract. A fabulous addition to your dining table or sideboard. According to AI - In Georgian times (1714–1837), sugar casters were elegant, often silver, perforated vessels used by the affluent to "cast" or sprinkle fine, powdered, or loaf sugar onto desserts, fruits, and puddings. They were key table items, frequently used to sweeten tea or top pastries, and were also known as "muffineers" for dusting muffins.
