A vintage foot-operated bellows by W. & J. George & Becker Ltd of Hatton Wall, London E.C.1 and Birmingham, UK. We believe that this was designed as a bench-side air supply for laboratories and workshops and used for blowpipe work, glassblowing and feeding gas burners. The operator pumped the treadle plate with one foot, delivering a steady stream of air through the brass outlet nozzle. Constructed from timber and thick leather, with a double-chamber concertina body secured by rows of domed brass studs, a coil return spring, and a brass outlet fitting. Mounted on its original timber base. Retains the original brass maker's plate. Bearing their NIVOC trademark. The pre-postcode addresses on the maker's plate date it to approximately 1955–1970. Condition: Used as a display object and is in vintage condition with wear— patina, marks and darkening to the timber and leather.
