About this listing

The drum retains its original stencilled label reading "THE IDEAL — MADE IN NEW ZEALAND", possibly made with white pine (kahikatea) which was advertised as being free from taint and odour. Cream was added through the hopper opening and the barrel turned end over end by the crank handle until butter formed. It is intact with the paddles. This has been used as an ornamental piece. Timber barrel with galvanised bands, cast fittings, brass crank, on its timber stand.
