About this listing

Diana Gillanders – From the Life Class Striking canvas artwork by well-known NZ artist Diana Gillanders, active mid-2000s. Purchased directly through the Christchurch Art Gallery before the earthquakes. Size: 300mm × 400mm × 20mm Back of canvas reads: “M.M From the life class X 8” A beautiful, thoughtful piece with strong provenance and local significance. This artwork sits firmly within contemporary figurative mixed-media practice, blending soft, expressive watercolor washes with handwritten text layered across the composition. The fluid brushwork and gentle tonal transitions give the figure an atmospheric, almost introspective quality, while the integrated script adds a literary, reflective dimension typical of early-2000s New Zealand contemporary art. The result is a piece that feels both intimate and experimental, a modern take on life-class studies with a poetic, text-infused edge. Pickup Marshlands, Christchurch.
