Page edges browned, endpaper heavily foxed with surface loss; verse pages clean. Reprinted 1953. Selected by C. Day Lewis and L. A. G. Strong, this anthology gathers verse from the years 1920 to 1940, presenting the changing voices and concerns of poetry between the two world wars. The selection brings different rhythms, forms and attitudes into conversation, allowing personal reflection, landscape and social observation to sit beside responses to a world marked by uncertainty. Poems by writers including Stephen Spender and Louis MacNeice show some of the range within the collection. As an anthology assembled close to the period it represents, the book records the editors' view of what made contemporary verse distinctive and worth preserving. It offers readers an opportunity to encounter individual poems while exploring the shared tensions and contrasting perspectives of an important literary generation. AFTERPAY AVAILABLE!
